Fire Department

The Shawville-Clarendon Fire Department is composed of 25 volunteer fireman that proudly protect 4000 people living in an area of 140 square miles.

The Fire Department is dispatched by the 9-1-1 system to non-structure, grass, bush, barn, and house fires, car accidents for use of Jaws of life and for assistance with paramedics with lifts or as needed by Sûreté du Quebec. 

Each fireman must under rigorous training that is mandated by the Province of Quebec for a total of 175 hours of training in order to be a volunteer firefighter. 

The department operates out of one station located on Center St. that protects a primarily rural area. This station was rebuilt and was officially opened on March 25, 2000, the hall was built by many hours of the dedicated volunteers and volunteer fireman and from the Memorial Fund in remembrance of Fire Chief Bill Black.

The Fire department has the following equipment:

  • Class “A” Pumper
  • Tele-squirt Ladder Truck
  • Rescue/Bucket Truck
  • 1500 Gallon Tanker Truck
  • 3000 Gallon Tanker Truck

The fire department is active within the community with its programs for Fire Safety for Schools, Fire Cadet Program that allows grade 9 and up students to learn on the job skills of being a fireman and the necessary training that it takes to become a fireman. They are also instrumental in the Canada Day celebrations such as the parade, setting off of the fireworks, and an annual pig roast. They are volunteers at the Shawville Fair, they are active members in our community that serve to protect the residents and those in need.

Winter Parking Bylaws -
MUNICIPALITY OF SHAWVILLE
NOTICE PARKING IN WINTER
According to By-Law S.Q. No. 2011-001, the following
provisions apply to parking during the winter months:
Parking or stopping a vehicle a vehicle on a public road between
midnight and 6:00 a.m. from November 15th to April 15th is
prohibited on the whole territory of the municipality.
During or after a snowstorm, no vehicle shall be parked on any
street in a manner such as to hinder the plowing and removal of
snow.
The owner of any vehicle contravening the provisions of these By-
Laws shall be liable to a minimum fine of $30.00 and in addition
to having the vehicle towed away at the owner's expense.
